Rua Associates is pleased to announce the successful sale of Royal Glass & Aluminum Manufacturing, Inc., to Lakewood Construction Company.
Lakewood Construction, based in Holland, Mich., is a large-scale commercial construction firm serving the needs of industrial, health-care, religious, municipal, educational and commercial customers in West Michigan.
Royal Glass & Aluminum, based in Fennville, Mich., is a commercial glazing contractor and aluminum entrance and storefront fabricator serving customers throughout the Midwest.
Royal Glass & Aluminum owners Joel and Debbie Steenholdt said Lakewood Construction was a logical buyer for their Company because of its strong culture, excellent employee relations and deep knowledge of the construction industry. “They understand the industry,” Joel Steenholdt said. “We had others that were interested, but they were not as savvy about construction. We liked that connection.”
“The more we got to know them, their values aligned with ours,” Debbie Steenholdt said. “We wanted to make sure we found a good fit for our employees.” The Steenholdt’s, who sold the Company so they could retire, predicted that Lakewood Construction’s expertise will propel their Company forward with steady growth into the future.
Lakewood President Nick Nykerk said Royal Glass & Aluminum will not be “rolled into” Lakewood Construction. Rather, the companies will operate “separately and independently, but strategically aligned.” “Royal Glass has this traveling component that Lakewood doesn’t have,” Nykerk said. “We will learn how they pull that off in this industry. Construction is a challenge on its own, but travel adds a layer of complexity. We are excited and impressed with how Joel and Debbie served their customer base.” “We love the people who are at Royal,” Nykerk added. “We think it will be a great addition to what Lakewood can offer.”
